Gorgeous print for my favorite movie.
One of the best scenes in one of the best movies of all time, Cinema Paradiso. You’re probably laying around this week, Netflixing your face off. You should watch this if you’ve never seen it. (*side note, I prefer the original cut, 123 minutes)
Essential Viewing: The Spielberg Face, by Kevin B. Lee
“If there is one recurring image that defines the cinema of Steven Spielberg, it is The Spielberg Face. Eyes open, staring in wordless wonder in a moment where time stands still. But above all, a child-like surrender in the act of watching, both theirs and ours. It’s as if their total submission to what they are seeing mirrors our own.”
I took a whole film class just on Spielberg movies. There is something delightful about a directorial style that is so widely appealing that manages to do so without dumbing it down too much (yes, there are a few exceptions). ET was one of the first movies I ever saw in the theater as a kid, and it was pure magic. Jaws is one of my all-time favorites.
